>PVCA to Repeat as the SoCal Caravan's Home Club
The Pomona Valley Corvette Association will organize and host departure events for the Southern California
Section of the 2009 National Corvette Caravan. In 2003, for the last National Caravan, PVCA ran the
early-morning departure from the California Speedway at Fontana along with a reception and Caravanner's Meeting
the evening before.
The dominant Corvette Club in the western Inland Empire and eastern San Gabriel Valley areas of Southern
California, the PVCA voted unanimously at its General Membership Meeting of July 24th to repeat its "Home
Club" role in 2009.
Pomona Valley will stage a Friday evening event which will be a combination of a first-night, meet-and-greet
party and the customary, departure-eve Caravanner's Meeting. The PVCA, in cooperation with the SoCalCar
Organizing Team, will also organize the Caravan's departure from the Inland Empire the following Saturday
morning.
Caravan Captain, Hib Halverson, who was present at Pomona Valley's meeting, told us, "As a former
member of PVCA, I take a lot of pride in the fact that this organization has stepped-up, again, to support
Corvette Caravanners from all over Southern California. They did a heck of a job for us four years ago, putting
on a great pre-departure party then turning-out, in-force, to organize the departure of the Caravan the next
day. I appreciate the efforts of President Ernie Aguilar and "Commander" Brent Hicks of our
Organizing Team and who, also, is a member of the PVCA, in convincing all of our friends in Pomona Valley to
help us out in 2009. Knowing the PVCA always wants to exceed expectations, I'm gonna bet the '09 Departure
Events will be well-organized and a heck of a lot of fun for all of the SoCal Caravan's participants."
When asked about the departure point for the '09 Caravan, Captain Halverson, said to the eNews,
"Well...in '03, California Speedway was kind enough to let us use its Cherry Avenue lot to stage the
Caravan for departure. I'd sure like to do that again, but right now, leaving from there in '09 is just an
idea--something I want to do. The Organizing Team feels a racetrack departure is just about mandatory and
Fontana is the obvious choice. The OT has not begun negotiations with the track as yet, however, I've been in
touch via email with Gilian Zucker, the President of the Speedway and she set me up with Brian Geye, the
track's Director of Administration. Mr. Geye and I will have our first meeting this week. I hope to have
additional news for you on this in a month or so."
Best regards,
The Southern California/Southern Nevada Caravan Organizing Team
