>>MORE ON HOTEL BOOKING<<

OOPs!
We screwed up.

In the last issue of the SCSN eNews, we told you that you would need your Caravan ID number to book rooms. Well...we found out after we issued #16 that the number Caravaners may get when they register for the event is not the same as the number the National Corvette Museum assigns to each caravaner and which appears in the internal registration information NCM supplies to the Caravan Sections for them to keep track of our Section's entries. In short, this number "thing" has become a confusing situationthat is FUBAR. We're sorry about any problems this has caused for you Caravaners.

So...forget any ID numbers!

When you email our booking specialist, Ron Cohen, to reserve rooms just give the information listed below in the discussion of room booking procedure. Please read carefully as there have been a few changes since we issued the first version in eNews 16.

"Commander" Ron Cohen's Gorilla Travel Network is now booking rooms for the Southern California/Southern Nevada, North Texas/Oklahoma and Arkansas/West Tennessee Sections of the 2009 National Corvette Caravan.

Cohen says that hotel rooms for the following dates and locations will be available: 28 Aug 2009--Ontario CA, 29 Aug.--Flagstaff AZ, 30 Aug.--Tucumcari NM, 31 Aug.--Oklahoma City OK, 1 Sept.--Little Rock, AR and 2-5 Sept.--either Nashville TN or Bowling Green KY.

There are two ways to contact the Gorilla Travel Network to make bookings. The best way is by emailing Ron at gorillatravel@aol.com

In your email you must give the following information:

Your name and contact info including phone number and email address
Number of rooms desired
Cities in which you want to book rooms
Dates on which you want to book rooms
Number of people in each room
Special requests (handicap, Internet connection, etc.)
Credit card number and expiration date
Corvette Club affiliation

The alternative method of contact is to call Gorilla Travel Network at 888-811-APES (2737), however, expect telephone bookings to take longer.

Additional hotel talking points:

  1. The SC/SN Organizing Team has rooms blocked in all cities in which we will overnight. We will book rooms\ for all caravaners running with the Southern California/Southern Nevada, North Texas/Oklahoma and Arkansas/West Tennessee Sections of the Caravan.
  2. No credit cards will be charged. When you give Ron Cohen your credit card number that simply is to guarantee the room. Your card will be charged when you check out or if you cancel after the start of the hotel's cancellation policy. Typically that begins one or two days before your stay.
  3. All beds will be single Kings or Queens. Alternatives (two twins, two Queens, rollaway, etc.) may be available, but you MUST request them through Ron.
  4. All rooms are non-smoking.
  5. \
  6. The Nashville property will be the Opryland Hotel.

>>FUND RAISING: TIRE RAFFLE BEGINS NOW!<<

Our first raffle for a set of Goodyear tires starts immediately. Each raffle is for four of any Goodyear tire for Corvettes or other passenger cars or light trucks. The winner of each raffle gets the opportunity to buy a set of tires for $750.00.

To enter the raffle, send an email to "Commander" Sherry Maples at caravan2009@cox.net and request entry to the raffle. Your name will be entered. When the raffle ends, Ms. Maples will pick a name/registration number as the winner along with some alternates. The winner will be offered a set of tires for $750.00. Once the winner's check is received, he/she will get, by return mail, a certificate redeemable at any Goodyear dealer for the tires.

>>CARAVAN MERCHANDISE<<

Static cling Caravan logos, Caravan windshield headers, Caravan shirts and other merchandise will be available soon to SCSN Caravaners. Because we don't want to deal with the California Sales Tax bureaucracy, the SoCal/SoNev Organizing Team is in negotiations with one of our neighboring Caravan Sections. This will end with their acting as a retailer of Caravan merchandise to SoCal/SoNev Caravaners. As soon as we have the infrastructure necessary to do this in place and operating; we'll advise in a future issue of the SCSN Caravan eNews.

>>HELP WANTED<<

The SCSN Organizing Team is looking for a local leader in the Las Vegas/Henderson, Nevada area to organize and lead a "feeder caravan" which will leave Las Vegas mid-morning on 29 August and meet the main Caravan in Kingman, AZ that afternoon. This person must reside in the Vegas valley, be active with Corvette clubs in the area and needs to be experienced with planning and organizing Corvette events and leading caravans of 25 or more cars. Anyone interested in this job should contact SoCal/SoNev Captain, Hib Halverson at captain.socalcar.charter.net

Best regards, The Southern California Caravan Organizing Team

Going on the Caravan? Don't go braless!
95% of new cars with less than 1,000 miles have paint blemishes from normal driving. Imagine what two years of street driving followed by a cross-country trip will do to YOUR paint. The solution? A "Clear Bra". It functions like a traditional auto bra but is far more durable. It will NOT scratch your Corvette's finish like most "strap-on" auto bras. This 3M Paint and Headlight Protection lasts for the life of your Vette.
