>>COUNTING DOWN<<

There's about 60 hours left before the winner of the "Be the Lead Car to Barstow" raffle leads the Southern California/Southern Nevada Section of the 2009 National Corvette Caravan out of the Auto Club Speedway headed for Bowling Green.

>>>WEATHER...IT'S GONNA BE MAJORLY HOT<<<

Our resident meteorologist Caravan Commander Tony Megowan told the eNews this morning that high temperatures will persist over the Southern California and western Arizona deserts through the weekend.

On the first day of the Caravan, Saturday, expect high temperatures in excess of 110° in the southeastern Mojave Desert between Barstow and Needles CA. Skies will be partly cloudy. Later in the day, as we gain altitude between Kingman and Flagstaff AZ, temperature will drop to the high-80s/low-90s. No rain is forecast.

Megowan told the eNews, "Before we leave on the trip, everyone needs to re-read past eNews issues which have cautioned Caravaners about hot weather. Bring water and stay hydrated. Wear light colored clothes and a hat."

He went on to say that the weather on Sunday, the second day of the trip, through northeastern Arizona and northern New Mexico will be cooler. That, along with the higher altitude, will have temperatures in the 80s for most of the trip over to Tucumcari NM. The forecast along our route on Sunday is for scattered thunderstorms, so we might just get wet.

Megowan added that he posted more detailed weather forecast information for the five day trip on the SoCal/SoNev web page at: http://www.corvettecaravan.com/ca-southern/

>>TWO FRIDAY NIGHT RAFFLES<<

Caravan "Commander" Brent Hicks, who, along with Pomona Valley Corvette Association President Charlie Lipscomb, will MC the PVCA Departure Night Soiree this Friday, has told us that "Be the Lead Car to Barstow" raffle tickets will cost $5.00 each and tickets for the other raffles that night will cost $1.00. All proceeds from raffle ticket sales will go to pay SoCal/SoNev Organizing Team expenses or will be donated to the National Corvette Museum. Caravan Lieutenant Elora Stidham, the organizer of the Departure Night event, tells the eNews that raffle tickets go on sale once the banquet room opens its doors at 6:00 PM.

>>WHERE IS THE MARRIOTT ONTARIO AIRPORT?<<

Those coming to Ontario for the PVCA Departure Night Soiree with either the San Diego or Ventura Feeder Caravans will have an easy trip. Just follow your Lead Car driver, either Caravan Lieutenant Jim Estoch (San Diego) or Lt. Fred Smith (Ventura).

For those finding their own ways to the Marriott, the address information is: 2200 E Holt Blvd., Ontario, California 91761. The phone is 909.975.5000. It is in the City of Ontario, south of I-10, just north of the old Ontario International Airport terminal and a mile west of the current ONT terminal. Take the Vineyard exit off I-10 east or west, go south to Convention Center Way and turn left. Go one block and the Marriott is on the corner of Convention Center Way and Holt Ave.

>>WHERE'S OUR CAPTAIN?<<

Usually, just before we release an eNews issue, our Section Captain is hovering in the area adding content to the issue or just making sure we're doing it right, but last night, when we were putting No. 40 "to bed", he was no where to be seen so we called over to the "Captain's Quarters".

When he answered the phone, he was doing what many Caravaners were probably doing one night this week, waxing his car...well, not just any car, the SCSN Section's Lead Car. "Ordinarily," Captain Halverson said, "I'd have to be there to make sure you don't misspell words (laughs), but I'm a little behind schedule, so I decided to wax the car tonight. We have a Caravan Sponsor, C-Magic, which makes some of the best damn car wax I've ever used. It's the same stuff the NCM uses when they detail Museum Delivery cars prior to their owners picking them up. The stuff looks absolutely fabulous and it's pretty easy to apply. I use a Cyclo buffer, but many people do it by hand because C-Magic does not require a lot of effort in application. You buff on the C-Magic Wax then spray a second product, called 'Detail Wax,' which acts as an activator, then you polish the car with a microfiber towel. And, that's it. It's a killer shine. I got onto C-Magic at a Museum event a couple of years ago. The company's owners are Corvette enthusiasts who wanted to market the best wax modern technology could make and I think they've succeeded. Well, listen...I need to finish this job by nine and you need to get your sorry butt back to working on the final issue of the eNews. I'll see you on Friday."/p>

>>FORTY'S ENOUGH<<

Barring any last-minute emergency messages, this will be the final pre-Caravan issue of the Southern California/Southern Nevada Caravan eNews. For the last three years, the eNews staff has enjoyed bringing you information about the 2009 National Corvette Caravan. We hope you've found the SCSN eNews easy to read and, at times, funny; but always informative.

Have a safe Caravan to Bowling Green and....
Thanks for reading.

Best regards,
The SoCal/SoNev Caravan Organizing Team

Going on the Caravan?
Don't go braless!

Even new cars with less than 1,000 miles have paint blemishes from normal driving. Imagine what a cross-country trip will do to YOUR paint.

The solution? A "Clear Bra".

It functions like a traditional auto bra but is far more durable and cannot be seen. It will NOT scratch your Corvette's finish like most "strap-on" auto bras. This 3M Paint and Headlight Protection lasts for the life of your Vette. SCSN Capt. Hib Halverson used a 3M Clear Bra on the 2003 National Corvette Caravan and endorses it as the best way to avoid damage to the front of your car.
