Central Texas
Happy New Year, everyone! I haven't posted in a while due to work obligations and traveling and I apologize for that. Here's an update on how things stand on the CenTex
Caravan for 2014:
1. Roc Linkov, NCM Events Manager, reported that for 2014, the registration process will be one-time for both the caravan and the Anniversary. $5.00 will be for the
caravan itself and $0 for the Lifetime, $15.00 for members and $25.00 for non-members for the Anniversary event. Early registration will start sometime after the 2012
Anniversary Celebration. At this time, a cutoff date has not been established yet.
2. I have an email list serve up and running and I am trying to learn how to modify it and add names. If you know someone that should be on the list and is not getting
the email blasts, please share the information and let me know so that I can add them to the list.
3. I have a new email address for the caravan. It is centexcaravan2014@yahoo.com. Please use this email address in the
future to ask any questions about the caravan. I am in constant contact with "Fearless Leader" Paul Mariano and I will get an answer.
4. Lastly, a bit of news to some is that I will be moving from Texas to Kentucky next month. My wife and I bought a place just outside of Franklin, Kentucky and will be
moving there by February 15th of this year. Currently, I work in New York and this will be a lot closer for me and less time consuming as I go back and forth to New York
from Nashville. This will be a real change for me as I have always lived in the Southwest for as long as I can remember. At present, I will continue to be the CenTex
Caravan Captain until such time as National Chairman Paul Mariano decides to select another person or someone else steps forward and volunteers. Until that happens, I will
continue in the position until told otherwise.
The clock is ticking and it is now 2 years, 7 months and 5 days until the 20th Anniversary Celebration.

4/10/11
My name is Roy L. Carman and I am the Central Texas Caravan Captain for the 2014 National Corvette Caravan celebrating the 20th Anniversary of the National Corvette
Museum's grand opening. This is my first time as a caravan captain but not my first time to be in a caravan to the NCM. I joined my fellow Corvette owners in traveling to
the NCM in 2009 as part of the 15th Anniversary Caravan. My wife, Karen and I are excited to be a part of this historic caravan. The other member of my staff is Linda
Shellberg who will be reprising her role as Co-Captain for the 20th Anniversary Caravan. Linda was the Co-Captain for the 15th Anniversary Caravan and brings a great deal
of experience to the trip as she has considerable experience with caravans and will be an invaluable asset to our caravan. Linda is currently serving as president of the
Lone Star Corvette Club.
Who we are
To give a little background on me and my wife, I am a pilot for a major airline and based in New York City. My wife is a retired school teacher and flight attendant. I
started owning Corvettes in 2002 and we are now on our fifth Vette. I have a black 1992 ZR-1 and my wife has a 1991 black coupe. I am a Lifetime member of the NCM, a
member of the Lone Star Corvette Club in Texas and the Corvettes Limited of Bowling Green club in Bowling Green, Kentucky.
The Plan
While it is still early in the planning stage, the routing that we will be taking is set. We will be leaving on I-30 out of Dallas, Texas to Little Rock and then switch
over to I-40 to Memphis, Nashville and then up I-65 to the NCM. We will probably rendezvous and regroup like we did last time at Kentucky Downs just across the border in
Kentucky. We have not set the arrival time in Bowling Green but we will be leaving on Monday the 25th of August and arrive in Bowling Green on the 27th of August. What has
not been set is where we will be overnighting during the trip. The places that we stay at will determine when we arrive into Bowling Green on the 27th of August. To that
end, I will be conducting surveys with Corvette Caravaners of the last caravan and see what everyone would like. As we have some time before the actual event, it might be
a few months before the results are sent out and the actual trip schedule published. As with the last caravan, a route book will be published with our agenda and locations
for pit stops along the way.
Registration
The registration for the 20th Anniversary Caravan won't occur until after the 19th Anniversary in 2013. I am looking for volunteers to assist in the logistical planning
and help in locating sponsors to help offset the costs associated with a trip of this magnitude. My e-mail address is
centexcaravan2014@yahoo.com. Please let me know if you can help.
