August 23 2019 Friday

We will meet in Deadwood Friday night. Those that have to work can make their way there any way they want. Those that want to cruise from Casper to get there I will lead us up to Spearfish and drive the canyon, then into Deadwood. I will arrange a block of hotel rooms hopefully at First Gold like the last time we stayed there.

August 24 2019 Saturday

We will leave Deadwood about 8:00 AM and make our way to Wall South Dakota where we will visit Wall Drug for as long as we can. Wall Drug is open from 10:00 Am to 10:00 PM. Then on to Murdo SD. Where there is a car museum, and find lunch. We continue on to Sioux Falls SD. Where we spend the night at the Ramkota in Sioux Falls where I’ve arranged a rate of $94.00 there.

Also on Saturday the Pacific Northwest group is scheduled to come thru Wyoming. I hope to have someone from our club meet them in Gillette, were we plan to lead two groups towards Rapid City, the next stop for the Pacific Northwest group for the night.

Group 1) We will lead some cars to Devils Tower. One of our members has access to land adjacent to the tower for photo opportunities.

There is a pull off on I 90 at mile marker 163 where you can view Devils Tower off to the north. If you decide to go with group 2, or directly to Rapid City.

(having fun at the pull off)

Group 2.
I will lead some cars to Spearfish SD. We will leave I 90 and drive thru Spearfish canyon (a great corvette road) and into Deadwood.

There are opportunities between the canyon and Deadwood to break off and head to Mount Rushmore and Rapid City.

Parked on the top level of parking garage at Mount Rushmore.

August 25 2019 Sunday

We will leave Sioux Falls around 8:00 to 8:30 AM and drive to Austin MN. There we will visit the Hormel Spam museum. They are very excited that we will be visiting with a bunch of Corvettes. Near the Spam museum there is a Pizza Ranch in town that might be a good lunch stop. After lunch it’s about a 3 hour drive to the Chula Vista resort in the Wisconsin Dells. At the resort we will be joining up with the North Central Corvette Caravan where they have several tours and events available to us. We will be spending 2 nights there. More information coming about their events as they publish them.

Here is the information from the North Central of what’s happening

An additional day has been added to the package at Chula Vista Resort so that those who want to come early could do so at a reduced rate and enjoy relaxing for a day while enjoying activities at Chula Vista Resort and the Wisconsin Dells.

For checking in on Sunday, August 25, 2019, Chula Vista Resort is offering a $109.00 rate.

Early registration would then open from 5pm – 7pm on Sunday evening.

To give participants optional things to do we are planning the following optional activities:

We would lead a group to the famous Tommy Bartlett Water Ski and Show on Sunday evening. For great live entertainment in Wisconsin Dells that will keep you on the edge of your seat, the thrill and excitement of the Tommy Bartlett Show is just the ticket. This Wisconsin Dells Water Show is one of the Midwest’s most-loved shows. https://tommybartlett.com/water-show/ This show will be an additional cost event of $20.48 total per person and includes a separate reserved parking area and reserved chairs with backs and arms in our own seating section just for our Caravan. It is going to be hot in the Dells and it is going to be a beautiful night to enjoy this show!!

On Monday morning, we will offer several 2 – 4 hour tours, some with lunch, and some without and will take you on amazing drives in lower Wisconsin where there are no straight roads and they are really fun to drive. Each tour will be led by an experienced leader and you are sure to enjoy one of these tours.

The guided road tours on Monday will be:

Tour 1 – 9:00am – 4:00pmAL Ringling Mansion, Driftless Restaurant, Circus World Museum and Dells Raceway Park

Tour 2 – 9:30am – 11:30am – Wisconsin River and Castle Rock Lake Loop

Tour 3 – 10:00am – 4:00pm – Coach House Restaurant, Baraboo Bluffs Winery and the “Little Tail of the Dragon” as Devils Lake and Dells Raceway Park

All of the tours except Tour 2 will have as the last stop, Dells Raceway Park where you will have the opportunity to drive “Hot Laps” with your Corvette. This is not a lead follow event, this is just you and the track, a 1/3 mile banked, asphalt real race track!! Now that will be fun!!!!

For those who would like to drive on the track but are not on a tour, the track will be open from 3:00pm – 5:00pm and the registration desk will have directions to the track – it is only 9 miles away.

There will be nominal entry fees to some attractions, some wine tasting fees and your meal cost; however the guided tours and Dells Raceway Park are at NO additional cost to you.

If you want to tour on your own, we can give you directions.

Then in the afternoon we will have the Original Wisconsin Ducks® come right to the resort to pick up participants for a ride in the afternoon. In 1946, the world’s first Duck tour was launched. While other Duck rides have come and gone, only the original Wisconsin Ducks has been delivering fun and adventure on land and water, non-stop, ever since! The classic Duck Tour splashes into the Wisconsin River and Lake Delton, climbs over sand bars, traverses over four miles of exclusive scenic wilderness, and has been thrilling passengers for 73 years and counting. This tour will leave from Chula Vista Resort at 1:00pm on a Duck and will cost $23.75 per person.

Later in the afternoon you all can relax and watch the other Corvettes roll in on Monday afternoon.

So, why come in on Monday afternoon and leave the next morning?? Come the day before and have an extra night and another day to relax before the final push to Bowling Green with hundreds of your closest Corvette friends.

Again – thanks for joining the 2019 North Central Corvette Caravan and Barb and I look forward to hosting you at Chula Vista Resort and leading you to Bowling Green for the National Corvette Museums 25th Anniversary Celebration.

Hotel registration at Chula Vista Resort is now open for you to choose between a 1 or 2 day package. Please register early to get your choice of locations, views, room type, etc. as we anticipate a sell-out as we have projected 400+ Corvettes will be arriving at Chula Vista Resort for the Caravan.

Come DRIVE with us – we are going to have FUN!!

Monday, August 26th
Take advantage of the tours and activities arranged by the North Central caravan at Chula Vista Resort. There are hot laps planned at Dells Raceway or you can participate in the many activities at the resort or just relax. Included in your room rate will be free appetizers and cocktails followed by a dinner in the evening as well as a presentation about the plans for the rest of the caravan trip.

Tuesday, August 27th
Leave Wisconsin Dells and take a short scenic drive through the Wisconsin countryside and then travel to Bloomington, Illinois for a catered lunch at Leman’s Chevy City. Then we’re off to Effingham, Illinois for a catered sit down dinner at Mid America Motor Works with music and dancing.

Wednesday, August 28th
Stage up at Mid America Motor Works in Effingham and travel our final leg to Bowling Green. This is our shortest travel day at 239 miles. The caravan will travel to Evansville, Indiana and stop at the 4-H Fairgrounds for lunch.

We will then stage all participants for the final leg to Bowling Green and have the pleasure of being escorted by a Kentucky state trooper escort set up from the state line into Bowling Green. We are confident this will make the final drive much smoother than in 2014.

Day 7 +, August 28th
This will be your opportunity to see the museum, go on daily driving tours to caves, distilleries, and other things the Museum has planned. There will also be tours available at the Corvette factory right across the street as well as hot laps on the motorsports park.

To join the Midwest group we will need to sign up on their web site individually. Information and costs for their events is included on their website. They will provide information about lunch’s dinners and hotel sites all the way into Bowling Green KY, but not at Bowling Green KY.

The plan includes a Kentucky police escort in a police corvette from the state line to Bowling Green KY.
